How do we make learning come alive? Talular!

Here are a bunch of pictures I took from my activities at school, Terms 1 and 2. They come from Physical Science for Form 3 and Form 1 as well as Math in Form 1. These posters provide visual examples that I use to help my students visualize what's going on, when resources are rare - and when English is a huuuuge barrier.

First - Physical Science!

Kinetic and Gravitational Energy

Electricity - Circuits; Mass and Weight (oops, that one was found on the floor.. bad Form 1's!)

Magnetism: Current- induced magnetic fields of different strengths; The particulate nature of matter, as illustrated with mineral bottle caps!

Colors used for resistor codes; types of energy; diagram of an electric bell and charge tags for kids who were asked to make some current; pin the label on the circuit diagrams.

Mathematics

Rotations: how many orders of rotation does the mbaula have (charcoal stove)? What about the khasu (hoe)? Measuring angles - which way is the right way?

Directed numbers number line, window of interest for geometry problems so we can focus, different types of angles, a demo of equal sets of bottle tops, a tomato to show vertical angles, supplementary angles and complementary angles out of cardboard, triangles and quadrilateral shapes with lines of symmetry, and income levels for figuring out income tax in the social and commercial arithmetic unit.

How to prepare for exams! Really, they have no idea and didn't take notes when I presented this.. but it's a start.
